Jenneva Barrett and Michelle Gordon,

 

students in the master of social work program in the Brown School, have received commissions in the U.S. Air Force as part of the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program. Only 11 scholarships were awarded nationwide, and the Brown School was the only institution with more than one awardee.

David E. Vollman, MD,

 

an instructor in ophthalmology and visual sciences at the School of Medicine, was one of 31 finalists for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal. The award “recognizes a federal employee whose professional achievements reflect the positive impact that a new generation brings to public service.” Vollman, who treats patients at the John Cochran Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Louis, was chosen for implementing a pilot project tracking the results of cataract treatment.

Washington University
